Bus Service

Mendocino Transit Authority Coast vans maintain regular round-trip schedules from Gualala and Point Arena to Ukiah (with connections to Fort Bragg), and to Santa Rosa via Bodega Bay.

Climate

Moderate temperatures, more extreme as one goes inland. Rainfall average on the Gualala Ridge is about 58 inches; on the ocean meadows, somewhat less, about 45 inches.
Summer fog in the mornings at lower elevations, generally clearing by mid-day. Fair weather summer winds are usually from the north.
Rainy season is from about the middle of October to the middle of April. Winter storm winds are usually from the south.


Fire Protection

Volunteer fire departments and rescue squads in Jenner, Timber Cove, Sea Ranch, Gualala-Anchor Bay, Point Arena-Manchester, Irish Beach, Annapolis, Odiyan, and Elk. State Department of Forestry and Fire Protection stations in Sea Ranch and Point Arena.
CDF Fire permits required for outdoor burning from May 1 until the rainy season begins in October. Air pollution permits required year-round.


Dog Leash Laws

Because this area is sheep country, all dogs must be kept leashed and under control. Even small dogs can do major damage to a flock, and loose pets may be in danger of being shot by ranchers or animal control officers to protect the sheep. All dogs must be immunized against rabies.

Weekly newspaper: Independent Coast Observer is published every Thursday from Gualala, and for sale in stores from Manchester to Fort Ross. Area FM radio stations: KTDE (The Tide) 100.5; KOZT (The Coast) 95.3/95.5; KZYX (Public radio) 90.7. Telephone service: Verizon serves Sea Ranch and Timber Cove; SBC, all other areas. Central Valley Cable TV in Sea Ranch, Gualala, Anchor Bay, Point Arena and Manchester. Amateur radio repeaters at 147.825 (-600), 147.000 (-600), and 147.945 (-600). Local Internet connections available through Mendocino Community Network, Platform Horizons, and others.


Airstrips

Ocean Ridge Airport: Runway 2560', hours 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., lights by prior arrangement. No fuel. Extreme wind turbulence on windy days. Watch for deer on runway. (707) 884-3573.
Sea Ranch Airstrip: Runway 2600', displaced threshold 300'. No services. Open to Sea Ranch Association members and their invited guests only. Aircraft parked must display a Sea Ranch visitor pass, or may be booted. (707) 785-2444.

Tuesdays 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sundays: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On-site recycling: All recyclables may be mixed: uncoated cardboard, newspapers, office paper, magazines; tinned cans, aluminum cans, plastic milk, water and soda bottles; glass of all colors. Diversion area other reusable items and materials.

Sonoma County Refuse Disposal Site on Annapolis Road: Every Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday 8:00 to 12:00 noon. Recycling bins on-site for newspapers, uncoated cardboard, tinned cans, aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles.

Pacific Coast Disposal Recycling Center for "CA Redemption Value" aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles, and also non-redemption glass bottles. Sundstrom Mall, Gualala, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Info: 884-3886.
